Clients ask the same question every time: what does an app cost? The honest answer is that an app is not a product with a tag on it. It is closer to a building — more functions, or more complicated ones, mean more time, and the cost follows the time.
Why there is no single price
A custom development company will not quote a number before it understands the requirement. Companies selling template builds can name a figure immediately, because that figure is for the template rather than for your project — and neither the quality nor the control that comes with it is comparable.
The client’s half of the quote
Where a client arrives with a plan — an idea already tested, a market already checked, the functions already mapped — the quote comes back sharper and lower. A fortnight of the client’s own preparation routinely removes a month of the developer’s discovery, and the invoice reflects that.
When the project starts from zero
Some projects are still at the thinking-about-it stage: no scope, no research, no analysis, no functional plan. The developer then does the front-end work of defining the product as part of the build, which takes longer and costs more for exactly that reason. It is not a markup — it is work that has to happen somewhere.
Quality moves the number too
The same feature list at different standards is a different price. Whether the interface looks considered, whether the interaction stays simple, whether the layout holds together, whether it suits the people who will actually use it — all of that is design work, and design work is time.
Which is why the question has no standard answer. Software has no uniform price list, because no two projects are the same piece of work. The useful question is not what an app costs but what this app costs — and that one cannot be answered before the requirement is.
