Since 2020 public attention has turned sharply toward health and safety, and testing laboratories and biotech companies have benefited from it accordingly.
Testing through a mini program is more convenient than through a hospital, protects privacy better, and saves time at every step — which is why a large share of gene testing now runs through one. So what does a gene testing mini program need to do? In essence it is a workflow.
The chain it has to support
Follow the product from discovery to report and the modules write themselves: follow the mini program, register an account, assign a role, manage the sample, manage the members, report on the numbers, handle the money, and control who sees what.
The three roles
The customer
Uploads personal details, sends the sample by courier, and reads the report when it is ready. Everything they see is about their own case and nothing else.
The laboratory
Receives the sample, runs the test, generates the report and pushes it to the customer. Status has to be visible at every stage, because the waiting is the part customers find hardest.
The institution
Has a fixed population to test and organises them in batches — the corporate or group client, whose requirements are about volume and scheduling rather than one sample.
The back office
Sample management, member management, reporting, finance and permissions. Barcodes tie a physical sample to its record; permissions decide which staff member can see which stage. None of it is visible to the customer, and all of it decides whether the customer’s experience holds together.
Gene testing or general health screening, the work is the same: get the logic of the business straight, then get the process straight. Institutions and consumers are the ones who have to use it — if it is convenient for them and faster than the alternative, they come back.
