As mini program functions and entries keep expanding, the mini program ecosystem grows more complete, and linking an official account now helps a mini program get promoted better. XZS Tech, a custom mini program development company, shares the methods below.
1. How to link a mini program to an official account
Open the WeChat official account backend and click Settings, Official Account Settings, Related Mini Programs in turn, then click Link a Mini Program. Pass the phone verification and enter the mini program’s AppID. Note that the AppID can only be viewed in the mini program backend; after XZS Tech delivers your custom mini program, simply contact our support team to get it.
You can also choose to place the mini program on the official account’s profile page, and send followers a notice about the linked mini program through the account. When users open the profile page they will find the mini program and can tap straight in; if you opt to send the message, users receive the notification that the account has linked a mini program.
At present WeChat limits these links by numbers: an official account can theoretically link up to 13 mini programs, 3 of the same subject and 10 of different subjects, and one mini program can be linked to at most 3 official accounts. The subject here means the certified entity information.
2. Show the mini program in the menu bar
After linking succeeds, the official account’s profile page gains a Related Mini Programs section, and tapping it goes straight into the mini program.
To put the mini program into the account menu, set the menu in the official account backend and choose Jump to Mini Program. The settings ask for the mini program path; you only need to ask the development platform’s support team for it.
3. Insert the mini program into articles
WeChat currently supports inserting a mini program into a mass-sent article in three forms: text, image or card.
Besides keeping the mini program in the menu, you can let it appear inside official account articles, where readers jump to the specified mini program page with one tap. To set it up, click Mini Program while editing the article and it is inserted; then follow the prompts to choose whether it shows as text, an image or a card.
