News from August 5: the well-known big-data open-source community Hadoop recently announced official support for Tencent Cloud Object Storage COS. From now on, developers doing big-data analysis on the Hadoop architecture can use Tencent Cloud COS seamlessly and efficiently for massive data read-write tasks without modifying code.
Big-data analysis consumes enormous computing and storage resources. In the traditional model, computing and storage were tightly coupled: once resources ran short, both had to be expanded together. In recent years, driven by cloud computing, developers have increasingly adopted cloud object storage to separate computing from storage, raising resource flexibility and lowering cost.
Hadoop is today’s most widely applied distributed big-data processing framework and the de facto standard of the field. In an era when data’s value is ever more prized, Hadoop is widely used across the internet, government and finance industries.
Tencent Cloud Object Storage COS is a cloud distributed storage service with security, stability, massive scale, convenience, low latency and low cost. Its underlying layer uses Tencent’s self-developed storage engine YottaStore, which can theoretically manage a million-scale nodes in a single cluster, truly scale on demand, and reach disk utilisation above 90 percent.
With Hadoop’s community support for Tencent Cloud Object Storage, developers analysing big data on the Hadoop architecture can use COS’s high-speed cloud storage seamlessly.
“On Tencent Cloud, developers can use Elastic MapReduce (EMR) computing and use COS directly as backend storage, with no extra code anywhere in the process, which is more convenient and faster,” said the head of Tencent Cloud Object Storage.
At present, Xiaohongshu (RED), Cheetah Mobile, Zhenai and others use Tencent Cloud’s EMR on COS compute-storage separation mode to build and deploy big-data analysis programs quickly, effectively meeting their big-data business needs.
