1. Define your requirements
If you do not know what you want, how can you choose the best? Identify your business needs correctly: talk with your staff, assess the problems and analyse solutions, and form an outline of the solution you want to reach.
2. Define your budget
Cost always matters. Determine whether the project cost falls within budget. Unless you are confident of a guaranteed return on investment, you do not want to bankrupt yourself buying overpriced software; some companies price their solutions purely to look like a bigger, better and more affordable firm. Do not forget to hunt for hidden or extra fees in the contract: extra charges for document management, annual installation or maintenance fees on top of monthly support, on-site training and the like.
3. Their engagement in development
The outsourcing company must understand your needs in a way you grasp and endorse. Are they as passionate about the project as you are? Are they fully committed to building a quality product, or just chasing money? This shows plainly in how they suggest features to include, the product’s future role, or shoot down less useful ideas. Make sure, though, that they back their opinions with correct facts and reasons, convincing you of their dedication rather than just making their own task easy.
4. What if the cooperation breaks down?
It happens often: late in development, for some reason, you want to switch to another developer, and then “some suppliers try to stop you leaving by holding your data hostage, as if they owned it, or by charging excessive fees.” So agree properly on security matters, and on how you retrieve your own data if you choose another developer.
5. After-sales support and service quality
Even the most perfect solution guarantees only 99.99 percent uptime; sadly, no solution is 100 percent perfect, and errors after delivery remain possible. So you need direct contact with the development company’s technicians, and a company that provides good support, maintenance, software updates and upgrades, and troubleshooting for a considerable time after the sale.
Research deeply based on the factors above. Based on our experience developing and deploying custom software for organisations of every size, we believe XZS Tech, a software outsourcing company, can deliver a software development solution perfectly matched to your business processes, within the agreed cost and schedule.
