Many official accounts need migration: some to enable the comment feature, others simply to move the account.
What is official account migration?
An official account cannot change its subject directly, but through account migration the original account’s followers, original-content protection, comment management, article materials (optional), WeChat ID (optional) and violation records can be moved to a target account.
It is essentially merging two accounts: after migration only the target account remains, and the original account is automatically cancelled.
Materials needed for follower migration
Original subject materials: photos of both sides of the legal representative’s ID card; business licence photo (not required for individuals); a full-page screenshot of the official account’s subject information page; other materials as required.

The migration process
1. In the original account’s back end, go to Official Account Settings, then Subject Information, then Account Migration, and follow the prompts.
2. After agreeing to the agreement, select the migration content (followers and violation records are mandatory) and confirm the target account.
3. Fill in the administrators of both accounts and upload the WeChat Official Account Migration Application and the notarised letter.
4. Confirm the name: choose the original or the target account’s name, or pick a new one.
5. Fill in the invoice details and pay the review fee.
6. After approval, both administrators must confirm. Once confirmed the original account is frozen immediately, and data migration follows, taking 1 to 3 days.
7. Migration complete; the original account is automatically cancelled.
Notes: after migration the original account is cancelled and deactivated; a business official account cannot be migrated to a personal one; the migration fee is 300 yuan, so if your account has little value, migration is probably not worth it.
