What a Small Company Website Actually Costs

A small company has a limited budget, which means the money has to go where it earns something. That single constraint decides most of the choices below, starting from what to do before spending anything.

Before you start

Three things, and they can happen at the same time. Find out what platforms and companies exist and what they actually offer. Settle the budget. And begin gathering the material the site will need: what the company does, what it sells, who it sells to.

For a first website, the choice of tool matters more than it looks. Open-source systems and heavyweight platforms both assume knowledge of code or design that a first-time buyer does not have. A visual builder that requires no code is the better fit, for three reasons.

  • It costs little, so a new business can start using one without a commitment
  • It is software as a service, so there is no code to write and no server to configure; that is handled
  • The site can be changed at any time, which matters as much afterwards as it does during the build

Building it

The fastest route is a dependable platform, and the work breaks into three parts.

Register. A phone number or a QR scan is enough to create the account.

Choose a plan. Once logged in, pick the package that matches the size of the site. If the options are hard to judge, ask support rather than guess; the difference between tiers is usually page count and features, not quality.

Build the pages. The structural work comes first, because everything afterwards fills in around it. Layout the sections before writing anything, then fill them in with the editor.

Two rules for the content itself: keep it simple and generous with space, and write plainly. Visitors are not reading carefully; they are deciding in a few seconds whether this company can help them.

The domain

A site needs a domain, and both choosing and pointing it are simpler than they sound.

When choosing, three things matter: what the name means, how long it is, and what the extension is. Favour memorable over clever, because the name is going to be spoken out loud on the phone.

Pointing it at the site is usually a one-click operation inside the platform’s domain settings. Most builders handle the DNS records for you.

What it costs

A complete site of this kind lands somewhere around 5,000 to 10,000 yuan for the full package, which averages out to one or two thousand a year. Support is usually included.

That is the honest shape of it: not free, and not a five-figure agency project either. For a small company that needs a credible presence rather than a bespoke product, it is the sensible middle.
