What a Pharmacy and Health Products Mall Should Do

Internet access is part of daily life now, and the idea of connecting each industry to it has taken hold — healthcare included. Information systems and automation are where pharmacy is heading, and pharmacy and health-product malls are drawing both merchants and customers as a result. Here is what such a mall is worth, and what it has to do.

What the mall is worth

1. It follows how people already buy

The shift online changed buying habits first, and a pharmacy mall follows the change rather than fighting it: a customer pays in the app and the medicine arrives, with no trip and no queue.

2. It answers the questions customers actually have

A good mall carries a range wide enough to be useful, and pairs it with health information — what a given medicine is for, what should not be taken alongside it, what the precautions are. That is the part a shelf cannot do.

3. Lower cost, and a consolidated supply chain

Compared with a physical shop, an app or mini program brings operating cost down and management efficiency up, while letting people reach the service through the internet instead.

What it has to do

A catalogue that carries the range

The home screen holds medicines and health products together, consolidating supply and widening the range a single shop can offer.

Health content

Articles on medicines and health top up what a customer knows, which helps them use a product correctly and gives them a reason to come back.

Categories and search

The back office sorts products by function — cold remedies, fever reducers, stomach medicines — so a customer can browse a category or type a keyword and land on the right item.

Enquiries before purchase

A question about symptoms, dosage or a substitute goes to staff in the app, which both resolves it and moves the customer toward a decision.

Checkout

Once the items are chosen, payment happens in the app — WeChat Pay, Alipay, UnionPay — without a separate step.

Delivery tracking

Status updates in real time inside the mall, and a third-party delivery platform can be connected through an interface for same-city dispatch, which is what makes medicine arrive when it is actually needed.

Tying in offline pharmacies

A multi-merchant build lets physical pharmacies join, with their own pharmacists advising customers on what suits a condition. Customers find a nearby store in the app and collect there.

One constraint deserves respect from the start: regulation. Prescription against over-the-counter, licensing for online sale, and who is permitted to advise all change the flow of the product, so they belong in the specification rather than in a later patch.
