What Is a Reasonable Price for a WeChat Mini Program?

As WeChat mini programs become more popular, plenty of merchants want to ride the wave and raise their visibility. To keep up, they rush to build one — so what should a WeChat mini program cost? It starts with what you need: functions, architecture, positioning, interaction and UI all have to be planned up front. A custom-built mini program runs from a few thousand to a few tens of thousands of yuan, and the price also depends on which route you take.

Option 1: a template or source-code package

The cheapest route — usually a few hundred to a few thousand yuan. It is simple to operate and quick to launch. The downside is that upgrades become a problem: functions and page layouts are fixed, so the interface cannot be adapted much, and you still have to buy a server, domain and hosting separately, typically ¥1,000+ a year. Templates and source packages also tend to accumulate bugs afterwards, and after-sales support is unreliable.

Option 2: a SaaS platform

The middle route — generally a few hundred to a few thousand yuan. The feature set is conventional but broad enough to cover most industries, and you add the modules you need. Page design is flexible, and the interactive experience is close to a custom build. Most platforms include the server, so there is no separate bill for hosting and domain. Features are updated quickly to keep pace with the mobile internet, and support is usually reliable. The downside: there are many SaaS platforms and they differ sharply in feature logic, stability and how well they respond when something goes wrong.

Option 3: fully custom development

The expensive route — commonly ¥50,000 to over ¥100,000. You get exactly the functions you specified, and the intellectual property in the build is yours. The downside is the price: a custom build starts in the tens of thousands and goes up from there.

In practice, the everyday mini program is not expensive — usually ¥2,000 to ¥8,000, occasionally into five figures. A genuinely simple one can be done for a few hundred yuan. Complex programs need custom work, and because the labour cost is high, those start in the tens of thousands.

Any of these routes can work; pick according to your budget. Mini programs have become one of the places where WeChat’s ecosystem still pays a dividend, so merchants still watching from the sidelines should move — the window does not stay open forever.
