As mini programs have shown their value, every major platform has launched one. After WeChat, Baidu, Alipay and several other comprehensive platforms followed, which says a great deal about the prospects of this form of application. Merchants are joining in, but apart from the few with the resources to build an in-house team, most have to work with a third-party development company. Those companies vary widely in quality, so it is easy to be misled. Using Shenzhen as an example, here is how to choose the right partner.
Shenzhen lies in south-central Guangdong, faces Hong Kong and Macao across the water, and was one of the starting points of the Maritime Silk Road. In 2017 its GDP per capita reached 150,678 yuan, making it one of the wealthiest regions in the country. Its internet industry is exceptionally active, with Tencent headquartered here, and the city has a great number of mini program developers. Three suggestions may help.
1. Customised applications that meet real requirements. Many companies focus on the quotation and assume that a lower price is better. But a mini program is a new marketing channel with diverse functions that solve concrete problems for customers. Insist on the lowest price and the result is usually something that cannot support your brand and sales channels, and in the end the company is the loser.
2. A standardised process and real engineering strength. A mini program is not something one or two people can deliver. It needs a product manager, a UI designer, front-end and back-end engineers and a tester working together. Improvised teams can turn out a mini program, but there is no guarantee of quality.
3. Good service and ongoing support. Some merchants worry that the product will not meet their needs, or that problems will go unanswered. In practice they simply chose the wrong partner. Merchants are responsible for operating the program, and operations involve many online marketing tactics such as group buying, blind boxes and coupons, with different favourites at each stage. The developer has to work closely with the merchant and respond to new requirements immediately. So how do you find the right Shenzhen partner?
